Most RV problems do not start out as major repairs. They start as small things that get overlooked.
We see it all the time. Something simple gets skipped and before long it turns into a bigger issue that could have been avoided.
The good news is a few basic checks can go a long way in keeping your RV running the way it should. These are some of the most common things we see get missed and the ones that can save you the most trouble down the road.
1. Don’t Ignore Your Roof
A small crack or worn seal might not seem like a big deal, but that is usually where water starts getting in. By the time you notice it inside, the damage has already started.
A quick inspection every so often can prevent a much bigger repair later on.
2. Pay Attention to Your Water System
One issue we see more often than people realize is water ending up where it should not.
Sometimes it is a valve or pump problem that causes water to fill the fresh water tank without you even realizing it. The only sign may be water spilling out of the side of the RV, which usually means the tank is already full and something is not working correctly.
Catching it early makes a big difference.
3. Your AC Needs Maintenance Before It Fails
Your AC does not usually stop working all at once. It slowly loses efficiency from dirt buildup, clogged drain lines, or electrical issues until one day it just cannot keep up.
Regular maintenance helps keep it running the way it should, especially heading into the hotter months.
4. Slide Out Seals Wear Down Over Time
Slide outs are easy to forget about until there is a problem.
Dirt, debris and dry seals can lead to leaks or damage if they are not cleaned and maintained. It is a simple thing to stay on top of, but it gets overlooked more often than you would think.
5. Electrical Issues Do Not Fix Themselves
If something is not working right, it is usually not something to ignore.
Electrical issues tend to get worse over time, not better. Taking a look sooner rather than later can prevent a bigger repair down the road.
6. Do Not Overlook Wheel Bearings
Wheel bearings are one of the most commonly missed maintenance items, especially if your RV has been sitting for a while.
When they fail, it is not a small issue. It can leave you stuck and dealing with a much more expensive repair.
